A living will is a legal document that allows you to make your own decisions to direct which types of life-sustaining treatment, if any, you would like to receive. This is helpful in the event that you are diagnosed with a terminal illness or if you are otherwise incapacitated.
Living wills are similar to Healthcare Power of Attorneys in the fact that they both designate what happens to you in the event that you’re incapacitated. The biggest difference is who gets to decide. With a Living Will you decide and with a Health Care Power of Attorney your agent gets to decide.
A Last Will and Testament is a legal document that expresses what you wish to have done with your property, both real and personal and including your money and accounts.
The living will and the last will and testament are two completely different documents. Although similar in name, the living will has nothing to do with money or possessions.
