In a perfect world, policy holders would make claims and insurance companies would pay them, but we do not live in a perfect world. Some insurance companies live by a “Delay, Deny, Defend” rule when it comes to paying out insurance claims.

The insurance industry frequently uses the “Delay, Deny, Defend” position for car accident claims and any other pay-out that they can, but the next big wave of claims will result from BOP denials related to COVID-19. A BOP (Business Owner’s Policy) claim that covers business interruption losses would allow small business owners to receive an insurance pay-out due to their loss of business related to COVID-19

Recently, Ohio State Representatives introduced Bill 589, which would require insurances offering business interruption insurance coverage to cover losses attributable to viruses and pandemics on policies that were effective by March 9, 2020.
